Service police launch investigation after offensive pix of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding are leaked from a WhatsApp group.
Soldiers at the exclusive forces base in Hereford are being investigated over racist memes consisting of one of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding.
Royal Military Police have been called in last week after images from a WhatsApp team showing derogatory and racist images and video had been leaked.
At least three troopers belonging to the Army Air Corps (AAC) are understood to be the focus of the carrier police inquiry.
Two pics and a screengrab from a video had been leaked to the Daily Mail. One was a mocked-up image from Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s wedding. The new photograph had superimposed the head of a black man on that of the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Another doctored photo confirmed a black man’s forearm with the description “truck drivers’ suntan opposition winner”.
An photograph taken from a video of a naked and elderly Afro-Caribbean woman was also shared by way of the group.
No date has been given for how long the Special Investigations Branch, a discrete element of the Royal Military Police, will take to conclude its work. Should misconduct be proven, disciplinary action, together with discharge from the forces, may want to be taken.
